Excel to CSV

Export one XLSX worksheet as CSV for imports and simple data exchange. Select the sheet you need instead of merging an entire workbook.

Files are processed locally. Maximum file size: 10 MB.

Only XLSX is supported. Formulas are not evaluated; available cached results are exported.

How to use

Import an XLSX file under 10 MB. Choose the worksheet number, starting at 1, convert it, and download the CSV. Check the exported rows before importing elsewhere.

Example

In a workbook with Sales and Stock sheets, select sheet 2 to export Stock separately.

FAQ

Are formulas recalculated?

No. Only stored formula results are available. Open and save the workbook in a spreadsheet app first if its cached results are missing. XLS files are not supported.

A practical task

Export the specific sheet your receiving system expects. If a workbook has an introductory notes sheet before the data, worksheet 1 is not automatically the correct source. Inspect the returned sheet names and verify the header row in the CSV.

Another useful question

Can CSV preserve colors or multiple tabs?

No. Keep the XLSX original for formatting and other sheets. Export each needed table separately with a filename that identifies its source.

Details for interpreting the result

Detail Explanation
Workbooks and sheets An XLSX workbook can contain several worksheets, formulas, formatting, and hidden context. A CSV export represents one flat table. Select the intended sheet and retain the workbook when that extra context matters.
Stored formula results A workbook can store a formula and a previously calculated value. A reader that does not calculate formulas can only use that saved value. Recalculate in a spreadsheet editor when the cached result is missing or stale.
Quoted CSV fields In comma separated CSV, a field containing a comma, quote, or line break needs quotes around it. A quote inside that field is doubled. Splitting every comma by hand loses those field boundaries.
Column headers Headers provide names for columns; they are not extra data values. Keep their order aligned with each row. When building objects, duplicate header names create ambiguity about which value belongs to a key.
CSV and spreadsheets CSV stores text and delimiters, not cell formatting. A spreadsheet can interpret a value beginning with a formula marker when opening it. Review imported files rather than assuming quoted cells cannot be interpreted.
Strings and values The JSON string "12" differs from the number 12, and "false" differs from false. Type changes affect comparisons and imports. Keep identifiers as strings when their leading zeros or exact digits matter.
Empty and missing data An empty string, a missing property, and null express different states in structured data. A flat table can merge some of those distinctions. Confirm how missing cells should be handled before converting records.
