About

Employ this text tool to wrap words to a specified length and align the text in each line. It functions by adjusting word spacing to ensure the text aligns neatly on both sides. Additionally, you have the option to 'Break word,' allowing words to be cut at arbitrary points. Please be aware that the alignment is only visible when using monospaced fonts (such as Monaco and Lucida Console) due to variations in letter sizes in serif fonts.

Align plain text across a fixed line width by adjusting spaces between words. Prepare monospace paragraphs for text based layouts.

How to use

Paste the text and set the width. Choose the word cutting option if needed, then justify. Inspect long words and the final line.

Example

A short line with three words gains extra spaces between them so its edges approach the chosen width.

FAQ

Will this align in every font?

No. Spaces create a fixed grid only in a monospace font. HTML pages normally need CSS justification instead.

A practical task

Use a short paragraph to find a comfortable width before processing a document. Very narrow lines create large gaps between a few words; very wide lines are harder to follow. The final line is intentionally treated differently from a full line of the paragraph.

Another useful question

Is this the same as a word processor's justify button?

It inserts ordinary spaces into text. A word processor calculates visual spacing from fonts and layout, so the two results are not equivalent.

Details for interpreting the result

Detail Explanation
Monospace alignment In a monospace font, ordinary characters occupy a regular grid. Proportional fonts use different widths, so inserted spaces do not create reliable visual columns. Check display settings before judging padded text.
Whitespace characters An ordinary space, a tab, a nonbreaking space, and a zero width space are different characters. They can look similar or invisible. Choose the exact kind of cleanup instead of treating all blank looking input as equivalent.
Tabs and positions A tab character usually moves to a tab stop in an editor. Replacing it with a fixed number of spaces is a different operation. The visible distance depends on the editor's tab width and the current position.
Trimming and content Trimming removes characters from an edge rather than the middle. Whole text trimming differs from trimming every line. Preserve indentation in code or structured text when it carries meaning.
Paragraphs and lines A manual line break and a paragraph boundary serve different purposes. Export tools can map them differently. Inspect lists, addresses, and intentional blank lines rather than treating every visible break as interchangeable.
