About

Use this text tool to eliminate specific unwanted characters. Simply type the characters you want to remove in the text box and click 'Remove.' There's no need to add separators like commas or escape characters. You can also choose from several predefined templates for your convenience.

Templates

  • Blank - Empty list
  • All non-alphanumeric - Deletes any character/symbol that is not a number or letter (in upper or lower case)
  • Diacritics - Deletes all letters with accents
  • Letters - Deletes all letters from Aa to Zz
  • Numbers - Deletes all numbers (0 - 9)
  • Punctuation - Deletes all punctuation marks
  • Special Characters - Deletes all non-alphanumeric tokens, special characters, and character entities.

Note: You can customize all templates except for 'All non-alphanumeric' to suit your specific needs. If you have a specific set of characters you want to remove, use the 'Blank template.'

Delete specific characters from a passage. Clean known punctuation or unwanted signs without replacing the surrounding words.

How to use

Use a customizable character list and enter exactly the characters to delete. Inspect the list before applying a preset, then test a short sample.

Example

With ! and ? in the list, “Hello! Ready?” becomes “Hello Ready”. Do not add commas as separators unless commas should also be deleted.

FAQ

Does the alphanumeric preset preserve all languages?

No. Its current pattern is based on ASCII word characters and can remove non Latin letters. Use an explicit list for multilingual text.

A practical task

An explicit removal list gives better control than a broad template for mixed language text. If only square brackets are unwanted, list those brackets instead of deleting all punctuation. Preserve decimal signs and apostrophes when they carry meaning.

Another useful question

Should I trust a template without checking its list?

Inspect the actual characters shown. Some presets have limited coverage, so test representative source text and keep an original copy.

Details for interpreting the result

Detail Explanation
Whitespace characters An ordinary space, a tab, a nonbreaking space, and a zero width space are different characters. They can look similar or invisible. Choose the exact kind of cleanup instead of treating all blank looking input as equivalent.
Tabs and positions A tab character usually moves to a tab stop in an editor. Replacing it with a fixed number of spaces is a different operation. The visible distance depends on the editor's tab width and the current position.
Trimming and content Trimming removes characters from an edge rather than the middle. Whole text trimming differs from trimming every line. Preserve indentation in code or structured text when it carries meaning.
